Stepping into the city with the Cowboy Cruiser is like entering a realm where style meets innovation. Its captivating design doesn’t just turn heads; it commands attention and curiosity from onlookers, creating a magnetic presence that transcends the typical cityscape.
Design and Aesthetics
The Cowboy Cruiser is a head-turner in every sense. The bike’s unique design is a harmonious blend of futuristic elements and classic aesthetics. From its sleek lines to the carefully crafted details, this electric bike isn’t just a mode of transportation; it’s a rolling work of art that demands a second look. I found myself frequently being approached by curious passersby when I locked it in old town, all captivated by its visual allure.

Riding Experience and Technological Innovation
The Cowboy Cruiser Performance is a testament to the brand’s commitment to rider satisfaction and continuous improvement. Having previously experienced the Cowboy Classic, I initially faced challenges in my hilly town, where steep inclines demanded more from an electric bike. The Classic’s sporty riding style and single-speed setup with a 45 Nm torque motor proved challenging for daily commutes, especially in areas with demanding terrain.
However, Cowboy addressed these concerns with the introduction of Adaptive Power technology. This game-changing feature seamlessly adjusts the motor’s power, making light work of steep hills, carrying loads, or battling headwinds. The difference was palpable, and it transformed my riding experience.
Design and Comfort
The Cowboy Cruiser takes the experience a step further with thoughtful design enhancements. The raised, wider, and curved handlebar not only adds a touch of sophistication to the overall aesthetic but also contributes to a more comfortable riding position. Paired with the comfier, wider saddle, it creates a cruiser that excels not only in performance but also in providing a relaxed and enjoyable ride.
The adaptive power against steep hills, combined with the Cruiser’s ergonomic design, makes the journey a pleasure. Whether cruising through city streets or conquering hilly terrains, the Cowboy Cruiser Performance effortlessly marries style, comfort, and technological innovation.
User-Friendly Design and Unlocking Mechanism
The Cowboy Cruiser redefines simplicity in electric bike design, making it accessible to riders of all levels of experience. Unlocking the bike is a breeze, offering two straightforward methods. For the traditionalists, a physical key allows you to unlock the battery, detaching it for a few seconds before reattaching. The tactile nature of this method provides a hands-on experience, and the bike often triggers the start seamlessly upon reattachment, with a slight waiting time for added security (!).
Alternatively, the Cowboy App elevates the unlocking process to modern convenience. With a few taps on your phone, you can effortlessly unlock the bike, offering a seamless and tech-savvy experience. The app also supports auto-unlock, adding a layer of convenience for those who prefer a more automated approach. This dual unlocking mechanism caters to a range of preferences, allowing riders to choose the method that best suits their style.
Handlebar and Brakes
The attention to detail on the Cowboy Cruiser extends to its handlebar and brake levers, providing not just functional excellence but also an aesthetic touch that adds to the overall appeal. The brake cables, almost hidden from view, contribute to the bike’s sleek and streamlined look, enhancing the visual harmony of the design.
Motor Performance
The motor kicks in with impressive speed and strength, providing a dynamic and exhilarating riding experience. While it’s a bit louder compared to other bikes, it didn’t disturb my overall enjoyment.
Quadlock Attachment and Phone Integration
One standout feature of every new Cowboy is the built-in Quadlock attachment mechanism, seamlessly integrated to serve as a practical dashboard for your mobile phone (case needs to be purchased separately). This thoughtful addition not only enhances the bike’s tech-savvy appeal but also offers riders a convenient way to navigate or monitor their rides in real-time. The bike further caters to modern needs by incorporating wireless charging for your phone. If you prefer not to charge your phone during your rides, the option to switch off the charging function is available in the Cowboy App. Alternatively, for those who prefer a phone-free experience, the LED lights conveniently display the battery status, providing a quick and easy visual check.
Simplicity and Maintenance
The Cowboy Cruiser’s single-speed configuration and belt drive contribute to the bike’s overall simplicity and user-friendly design. This not only enhances ease of use but also minimizes complications, translating to less maintenance for the rider. With the exception of the brakes, which require standard care, the belt drive is expected to last at least 10,000 km before replacement. This focus on simplicity and durability ensures that riders can enjoy their journeys with minimal upkeep concerns.
Smartphone App and Connectivity
The Cowboy Cruiser isn’t just a bike; it’s a seamlessly connected experience with its feature-rich smartphone app. The lock/unlock function is not only accurate but can also be set to Auto, providing a hands-free experience. When in proximity, the bike unlocks effortlessly, allowing for a swift jump onto the saddle. For added security, the app intelligently avoids unlocking within 150 seconds if you remain in the bike’s proximity, offering a practical solution for those not residing in high-risk areas.
Bike Controls and Integration
The app extends beyond the basics, offering convenient control over various bike features. From toggling lights on/off to managing wireless charging and activating Adaptive Power, the Cowboy app puts the rider in command. This integration of controls into the app ensures a user-friendly experience, allowing riders to customize their journeys with ease.
GPS and Security Measures
With built-in GPS and GSM, the Cowboy Cruiser remains connected at all times. The app provides real-time location tracking, offering peace of mind to riders concerned about their bike’s security. Additional safety measures include Crash Detection and the ability to set Emergency Contacts, reflecting Cowboy’s commitment to rider well-being and security.
Ride Tracking and Integration
Where the Cowboy Cruiser truly stands out is in its comprehensive ride tracking capabilities. The app not only records the details of each ride but also distinguishes between the rider’s efforts and the electric motor’s contributions. Riders can delve into the specifics of their journeys, including the calculation of actual calories burned. The seamless integration with Apple Health allows for the effortless transfer of health data, while hardcore riders can rejoice in the availability of Strava integration, catering to those who seek detailed analytics and performance metrics.
Weather Notifications and Rider Tips
For those who prefer using their phones as a dashboard, the Cowboy app goes beyond the ordinary. Receive timely messages and tips about your rides and even weather conditions. Planning to ride in the rain? The app suggests bringing a raincoat based on nearby forecast data. This thoughtful feature adds an extra layer of convenience and consideration for riders, enhancing the overall riding experience.
Additional Considerations
While the Cowboy Cruiser boasts impressive features, there are some areas that could see enhancement. The built-in LED lights focus on visibility rather than illuminating the rider’s pathway in darker conditions. Consideration for an improved front light that maintains the bike’s design language would be welcomed.
A built-in lock, especially for VanMoof enthusiasts who appreciate the ease of a kicklock, is notably absent. Riders may need to invest in a secure external lock, particularly in large cities where bike theft is a concern.
The absence of a built-in speaker might be felt, especially for riders who dislike attaching additional accessories that might disrupt the bike’s aesthetic. While Cowboy currently doesn’t offer a built-in speaker, their use of motor-generated alarming sounds showcases an innovative approach to address this concern.
Conclusion
Iwasn’t in favor of Cowboy Classic as a rider living in a hilly area two years ago, mainly due to the efforts necessary to climb up the hills and the sporty riding position for daily use. However, with the introduction of the Cruiser and Adaptive Power technology, my perspective has changed, and I am now genuinely happy with the bike. There are some aspects that could be improved, such as the front light’s illumination and the absence of a built-in lock and speaker, but overall, the experience is easy, enjoyable, and comfortable. The Cowboy Cruiser delivers a thrilling ride with its powerful motor, making it a solid choice for urban commuting.
